As my clients step out offering their unique gifts and talents to the world, the one thing I keep hearing is “Who Am I To Be Doing THIS?” There seems to be a crisis in confidence, not only for Transformational Entrepreneurs, but for ANYONE who is taking on a new adventure, starting a business, or stepping out of their comfort zone. It certainly happened to me when I became a Business Success Coach!
What I went through, and what I see my clients going through as well, is the inadvertent questioning such as:
- Am I good enough to be doing this?
- Who do I think I am?
- There are so many others already doing this, and they have FAR greater experience and knowledge than I do.
- Why would someone want to work with ME, when they can easily work with THEM?
When I went through my own crisis, I remembered two of my previous greatest coaches, Paige Stapleton and Brian Stark, telling me about their “ladder” principle. They said that our ideal clients are already on the same ladder that we are. They are not several ladders below us; they are only a few rungs behind us.
If you think about it, the person who is several ladders above you, the one you feel threatened by because they know so much and have infinitely more experience, these “experts” in the field are NOT working with the same tribe. The ones who are YOUR ideal clients are right where you have been recently. Not where you were so long ago that you’ve forgotten what it was like. YOUR ideal clients are in the struggle, stuck in even some of the same places that you were not that long ago!
Using the ladder analogy, your ideal clients are following you so closely on the ladder that if you were to reach below, and if they were to reach above, your fingertips would touch. You’ve been there. You are willing to share your own vulnerability, and they feel like they already know, like and trust you. You can relate to them, and they are DRAWN to you because you GET them.
If that’s the case, and I truly believe it is, the question, “Who Am I To Be Doing This” is simply not valid. Who are you NOT to be doing this? Your tribe is waiting for you to answer the call. They WANT what you have to offer. They don’t want to work with the one at the top of the ladder, with the most experience and know-how. They are drawn to you for a reason.
Please don’t allow your fear and doubt to keep you from bringing your message to the world. You have unique gifts and talents. The world is waiting for them, and you have been called to SHINE YOUR LIGHT. I was transformed when I realized this, and stepping into my confidence has helped me immensely. I know it will change your world, too.
