We all have a shadow side of ourselves, and it creates havoc in our lives when we don’t know how to tame it. It tends to sabotage everything we do unless we learn to recognize it, embrace it, and loosen its grip in our lives.
Here are some of the tools our shadow uses:
- Projection – this results in lots of blaming and staying a victim.
- Defensiveness – our shadow is in charge when our buttons get pushed.
- Control – our shadow wants to be in control to feel safe.
- Judgment – We judge others for having qualities that we dislike and deny in our own shadow.
We will have fun identifying the masks we wear to disguise our Shadow, such as “the People Pleaser”, “the Critic”, “the Perfectionist, or the “Know-It-All”.
Then I will walk you through Debbie Ford’s famous Bus Exercise to help you get to know your very own shadow parts! It’s fun, it’s enlightening, and it can most certainly change your life for good.
Once we are able to embrace our own shadow and see our “perfect imperfection”, we begin to allow others to be imperfect, too. Instead of judging ourselves and others, we shift to a heart-centered place of compassion.
