I have been taking a spiritual class at Mile Hi Church in Denver CO that is based on the works of Dr. Thomas Hora. The course is entitled Metapsychiatry, which means going beyond conventional psychiatry (and also beyond traditional therapy and counseling).
Studying Dr. Hora blows my mind and I see many of the same spiritual principles that I learned during my studies of A Course In Miracles. I am learning so much about stepping more into ASKING for guidance instead of TELLING the Universe what I want. It’s helping me so much with my clients, too, because I am in awe of who they really are and why they are here. If you are interested in a spiritual path that has roots in Buddhism, Taoism, Existentialism and Carl Jung, check out Dr. Hora’s work at http://www.PAGL.org
Looking at some of the symptoms of fear, I can see that I hang out there quite often. In order to move from fear to fearlessness, I must move to Love, to my True Self, to PAGL, to God. This shift becomes much easier when I spend more and more time in spiritual practice.
Here are some of the things I’ve discovered about myself that might apply to you as well:
- My thinking mind is not who I am. It can get carried away with thinking about the past (which brings up regret). My thinking mind is of the EGO. It can go off with lots of negative self-talk, shoulds, and thoughts generated from my subconscious mind, most of which are negative. Living in the unconscious thinking mind is the same as being trapped in “ego”.
To move from my thinking mind I move lovingly into my True Self, where I am in at-one-ment with Source Energy, which is so calming, and it gets me out of the turmoil of random negative thoughts into the clear, all-knowing, Love-Intelligence of Source, which is in, and around and through us always.
- Worrying is “suffering in advance” (Alan Cohen). Why would I want to do that? While in EGO I spend LOTS of time there. Usually I am worrying about the future. Money worries, health worries, getting old worries, etc. This is obviously suffering. I choose to let go of worry, and turn to Trust instead. When I trust in the plan that Source Energy has for me, when I trust in this moment, when I trust in Love, all is well. When I am basking in peace, gratitude and love, all worry ceases to be.
- Obsessive Ruminations: These would be negative thoughts, such as “I’m not good enough”, “I’m not lovable”, etc. The antidote is getting into the stillness of Universal Presence. In meditation I practice getting into the gap between thoughts, and the gaps are getting longer. Since these obsessive thoughts are pure ego thoughts, they are 100% fear-based. As I still my mind and embrace the Oneness that is presence everywhere, I return to my True Self, a being of Divine Love. We are ALL that and so much more.
